Wizard Of Wor (Arcade, Atari 2600, 5200) Game Review By Mike Matei & Video

If you are frequent purveyor of our blog, you may know that we're HUGE fans of Cinemassacre - home of the brilliant web series, The Angry Video Game Nerd. The AVGN reviews A Boy and His Blob (NES), The Three Stooges (NES), Home Improvement (SNES), Pit Fighter (SNES), Bubsy 3D (PS1), Spider-Man and Venom Maximum Carnage (SNES). It gives us a chance to play and talk about a lot of games that wouldn't be appropriate for the Nerd to review.

Other contributions over the years have included drawing each episode's title cards, helping James pick out and study the game before writing the script for a Nerd episode, and portraying the cheating bastard” Motherfucker Mike in the Board James series.

The AVGN reviews Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (NES), Shaq Fu (SNES), Far Cry Vengeance (Wii), Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (Wii), and Boogie (Wii). During their playthrough of Sonic '06 , Game Grumps went on an extended riff about Matei's simple style of comedy (shown below).

Now that time has passed, you do appear on camera for segments such as James and Mike Mondays as well as your own personal reviews for games and other media. Mike: Monster Madness is my favorite series we do on Cinemassacre. The success of the show made Rolfe branch out into other gaming systems, and would later change the title into the Angry Video Game Nerd to prevent trademark issues with Nintendo.

The AVGN plays the NES game Friday the 13th based on the horror movie. But, just like in the games that the nerd finds himself tirelessly trudging through, you'll come across many reasons to swear like a sailor. I like his Mike Matei movie reviews, but not his video game glitches.

The AVGN reviews Ghostbusters NES, Ghostbusters 2600, Ghostbusters SMS. Jacob Rich of Michigan Daily described the Nerd as the "pioneering internet 'gamer' show", adding that "pretty much every major game review show online today has 'AVGN' to thank for establishing its format".

Rolfe diversified the reviews of platforms and products such as the Atari 2600, Super NES, Sega Master System and Sega Genesis video game consoles, the Power Glove and U-Force peripherals, films such as The Wizard, and the Nintendo Power magazine. James Rolfe (also known as his character's name The Angry Video Game Nerd”), made headlines this week after what could only be assumed is a massive attack on women around the world.

Collaborative friend Mike Matei helped in producing and publishing the videos on Cinemassacre, and released outside of the website as "The Quickies" tape, part of a four VHS tape set called the "Cinemassacre Gold Collection". Read on and learn more about the Zelda content featured on Cinemassacre as well as the reflections of an original Zelda fan, Mike Matei.

There are also some very nice cameos from other ceinemassacre videos which any fan will plot itself is based around all of the ET Atari games being hidden in the landfill. As for fighting games, I love Smash Bros. The Nerd uses a NES Zapper as his main weapon, and a character known as Naggi the Patronizing Firefly, a parody of Navi from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, guides him through the tutorial.

It is funny though that now the Nerd has mentioned me by name in the AVGN Games ” episode. But what makes games great are the gameplay, not the graphics. Rolfe asked for the show's fanbase to provide webcam footage of themselves fictionally reacting to the Nerd's webseries, to be used as an intro to the film featuring the Angry Video Game Nerd character.
